Mike Towers is the Executive Information Security Officer for Actavis plc.  In this role, Mike is accountable globally for protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of Actavis’ vast information assets across an R&D, supply chain and commercial enterprise spanning 200+ locations in 70 countries. Mike’s responsibilities also include IT compliance with regulatory and legal regulations, risk management and third-party oversight.

Mike is actively involved in industry information and threat intelligence sharing as an active member of multiple executive security forums, including Department of Homeland Security’s NH-ISAC, McKinsey’s Healthcare Information Risk Working Group, Corporate Executive Program (CEP), Microsoft CSO Forum, Cisco CISO Forum and Corporate Executive Board’s Information Risk Leadership Council.

Previously, Mike was VP, Information Security Assurance at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK).  There, Mike was accountable the security of GSK’s information systems and computing infrastructure spanning 400+ sites in 110 countries, owning shared services in the areas of platform, network, application, and data security and advanced threat defense.

Prior to that, Mike had roles of progressively increased responsibility as the Lead for GSK IT’s Externalization Strategy, Director of Perimeter Services, Director of Emerging Technologies, and other roles with global accountability in server, client, network and web technology areas. Prior to GSK, Mike was an engineer at Intel Corporation and also was a lead writer for the University of Notre Dame Sports Information Department.

Mike is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a B.S. in Computer Engineering. He has also completed MBA (eBusiness) graduate studies at St. Joseph’s University.

Mike is CISSP, Lean Sigma Coach/Practitioner, Six Sigma Green-Belt, and ITILv3 certified. He is also a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), Electrical Engineering Society (Eta Kappa Nu), and National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE).
